Key Largo, Day 5

Well today didn’t go as hoped. We got up a decent hour and grabbed breakfast before saying our goodbyes to my grandparents (they left a day before us). Shortly after I was to get dropped off at the scuba place to find out whether the weather would allow me to finish my certification or not. When I got there, we had gotten notice that the waves were 40+ feet, and therefore not safe. We came up with a solution, a little Lagoon place down the road (no fishes, but deep enough to finish what I need) and tried that out. They were a little hesitant at first due to the thunder and lightning that kept popping up, but my instructor pleaded that we just need 30 mins and that we would assume any harm if they allowed us. They eventually did, so we quickly got our tanks and suited up so we could get done what we needed to before the next round of storms decided to show up. As predicted, we were in, out, and done in 30 mins. I had my husband come pick me up and I had officially gained a certification! Since it was rainy and we didn’t know what else to do for the rest of the day, we got prepped and took a small drive up to Miami to try Shake Shack (not bad, but not that good either) before we headed over to the Everglades to go Gator Huntin. We found a trail that was recommended and tested out the Jeep (and his newly redone brakes) to see if we could spot any gators or panthers. And we got lucky! We saw a few gators, especially later in the evening (we used a high powered flashlight to look for their glowing little eyes). Then we headed back to the resort and went to go chill by the pool. After about 20ish mins, the lightning was getting closer and we decided to call it a night. Not 2 mins after we got back to our room was the storm intense and a torrential downpour started up. Not too bad of a day overall. Sucks I didn’t get to dive more in the reefs and such, but that’s okay because it all worked out anyways (plus it’s another excuse to come back down!) Unfortunately we have to leave the ocean tomorrow, but I come back every chance I get anyways 😎
