Day 2! We originally planned to get up around 0800, but since the sun didn’t make even the slightest appearance until around 0900, that’s when we decided to surface. We got changed, put our beds back, and got ready for the day. Then (since we parked so close) we went straight to Skogafoss (the summer time difference can be seen in my previous visit to Iceland that has been posted). Before leaving Skogafoss, I checked my email and we unfortunately found out that our Glacier Hike and Ice Climb for the day had been cancelled due to the high winds. The winds were ridiculously bad, with gusts over 45mph since we arrived the day before. While sad this was cancelled, we knew it wasn’t without the customer’s safety in mind. Nonetheless, we moved forward. We decided to stop ndt take a look at Seljandsfoss and hike the nearby trail that overlooks another huge glacier. After that, we headed towards Vik.
When we stopped in Vik, we stopped specficically at the Reynifjara Beach (Black Sand Beach) and ended up having lunch at the cafe on sight. I had the burger, which was very good and definitely hit the spot with all the cold and wind we had been experiencing. Although the air temperature was warmer by more than 10°F at home, the wind in Iceland was unforgiving. After visiting these spots, we decided to make our way to Skaftafell for our next campsite for the night. This was another couple hours drive, but it puts us closer to our sightseeing spots for the next day, so I think it’s worth it. Day 3 tour hasn’t been cancelled, so fingers crossed we can go on that expedition!
